It's really hard to name the most important invention ever, because so many great and astonishing discoveries were made. Nonetheless, I want to dedicate my speech to microscope.

It’s not clear who invented the first microscope, but the Dutch spectacle maker Zacharias Janssen is credited with making one of the earliest compound microscopes around 1600. It could magnify an object up to 20 or 30 times its normal size. Since that time, microscope has changed a lot. Modern microscopes can even image a single atom.

The invention of the microscope allowed scientists to discover cells, bacteria, and other structures that are too small to the unaided eye. This made possible for the researchers to prevent deadly diseases. Microscopes are also used to diagnose illnesses in hospitals all over the world. Without the microscope, many diseases would still have no cure.
